Vanishing Wheels is Steve Van Vlaenderen’s photographic homage to vehicles resting in what may be their final places. Found in fields, tucked behind barns, or slowly being reclaimed by foliage, these vehicles carry stories that speak to our past, our progress, and the people we have become. Through his lens, Steve brings these vanishing wheels back into the light and preserves them as a celebration of history, character, and craftsmanship.

This beautifully written and illustrated 125-page book also serves a deeper purpose. Proceeds from every sale are donated to Parkinson Canada to support research and awareness for the disease that Steve lives with every day.

Copies are available directly from Steve and Darlene through our online ordering option, and can also be found at all three McNally Robinson locations.

If you prefer to order directly, you can email Steve and Darlene and send an e-transfer. They offer personal delivery within Winnipeg.

Thank you to the Road Rebels

Darlene and I would like to thank the Road Rebels Car Club of Brandon for all their support of “Vanishing Wheels” at my book launch prior to Trivia Night, February 25,2023 at the Ukrainian Reading Hall. The response was overwhelming.  It was a real pleasure meeting everyone and sharing stories.

Our Special thanks goes out to Dave Burba, who once again went “above and beyond” to promote our book signing and ensure that the stories of these old vehicles are not forgotten.

About Steve Van Vlaenderen

Steve Van Vlaenderen was involved in car racing in his 20s and 30s and has always loved cars. To him, the automobile is a triumph of the human spirit and its drive to create and to connect. So it’s no surprise he combined his passion for cars with his love of photography when confronted with the question of “What to do now?” when the Covid-19 pandemic and, later, advancing symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease, curtailed his continuing work on the passion project he had created – Sail on with Parkinson’s – an endeavor which saw Van Vlaenderen and his partner Darlene sail their 31 foot Niagara sloop Cloud on the open waters of the Great Lakes to raise awareness for the disease. Van Vlaenderen shifted gears and channeled his enduring drive into a new mantra: “no matter what.” Vanishing Wheels was born.

Proceeds to: Parkinson Canada

Vanishing Wheels is committed to raising the voice of people affected by Parkinson's through advocacy efforts focused on improving care.

We are also committed to collaborating and partnering to drive research innovation with the hope of finding new treatment and ultimately a cure.
